The digital revolution has caused a shift in the field of genealogy.
What was once a personal hobby or a sub-area within the discipline of History or Library Science is becoming a respected academic subject.
Why AGES?
AGES is focused on academic research and introducing or supporting Genealogy as a subject and a discipline at institutions of Higher Education; strengthening instructional and educational standards; facilitating the offering of courses across institutions, and supporting the networking of graduating students to find internships and professional career appointments.
Institutions of higher learning around the world have begun to offer degrees or certificates in genealogy or have begun to offer more Genealogy courses in History, English, or Library Science programs. Instruction and content have developed through an ad hoc approach as each program or course starts from scratch in producing materials and developing curriculum in the absence of universally recognized genealogical educational standards.
The Association of Genealogy Educators and Schools (AGES) will strengthen and coordinate standards and expectations for genealogical instruction at the post-secondary level. It will provide academic guidelines for Genealogy and become the standard-bearer and the academic face of subject instruction in academic settings.
